The liturgy of Presanctified Gifts: liturgical practice and theological aspects

This article represents a brief overview of the history, text attribution and the order of the liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts service. The very emergence of the service with joint communion, but without reading Eucharistic prayers, was established in Local Churches no later than the tenth century. Now, in the minds of most believers, this service is associated exclusively with the time of Great Lent, but the ancient evidence of the Constantinople chronicles reflects the possibility of performing it on other days, for example, on Wednesday and Friday of the Week about the Publican and the Pharisee, as well as on St. Friday. The evening time of the celebration of the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts allows a person to experience the day in spiritual and ascetic tension and connect with Christ, subordinating all his thoughts and actions to this event. The article also contains an analysis of some theological aspects of this
service. Recent studies in the field of liturgics reveal a connection with the ancient Orthodox tradition in the theology of the Pre-Consecrated liturgy, which allows us to note later influences of non-Orthodox origin in the accepted practice. Understanding these results is becoming an urgent task for the modern liturgical life of the Church today.
