The problem of preserving the cultural values of the Church on the agenda of the Holy Council of the Russian Orthodox Church of 1917–1918

The article discusses the views of participants in the Sacred Council of 1917-1918, reflecting various degree of awareness on the issue of preserving material and spiritual values belonging to the Church. This problem was identified at the first meetings of the Council, held under the Provisional Government, to which the members of the Council were quite loyal. The second stage of the Council work took place at a time of growing persecution of the Church by the new Bolshevik government. At both stages, the protection of the ministry, the clergy of parishes and the laity, as well as the preservation of church property from plundering and confiscation, were among the top priorities.
