Easter of Christ in the spiritual and poetic essay of Archpriest Vasily Tigrov “Holy Night”: genre and stylistic aspects

The article provides a linguistic and structural analysis of Archpriest Vasily Tigrov’s publicistic work “Holy Night”, dedicated to Easter. The genre belonging of a literary work is defined by the author of the article as a spiritual and poetic essay in which the writer and correspondent of the Tambov Diocesan Gazette shows the triumph of the celebration of the Resurrection of Christ, referring to the texts of Holy Scripture, the sayings of the holy fathers of the Church and personal spiritual experience. The stylistic features of the analyzed text are determined by aesthetic, communicative and cumulative functions. The individual-author’s style of
presentation allowed Archpriest Vasily to combine temporal and timeless plans in the text. The narration in “The Holy Night” is conducted in the first person in the present tense, but with the help of parallelism and comparison, the author-lyrical hero conveys the idea of the timeless unity of the past and the present, the temporal and the eternal, emphasizes the natural spiritual connection between the earthly and the heavenly. In order to interpret certain events, as well as to get acquainted with the symbolic meaning of concepts, Archpriest Vasily introduces lyrical digressions-explanations into the text, focuses on the spiritual, moral, historical, cultural, axiological components of the great New Testament event. Thus, the writer, through the creation of a special artistic space, explains the meaning and significance of the sacred rites taking place in the temple and acquaints readers with the Gospel.
