Historical consciousness in thе focus of public discussion

The research is devoted to the analysis of three approaches to the content of historical consciousness that have been formed in society and compete with each other in their desire for dominance. Proponents of historical nihilism are going to be influenced by consideration that excessive immersion in History prevents addressing to pressing problems, hinders the formation of the new. Representatives of historical scientism advocate the deideologization of historical knowledge, for its variability and openness to a critical approach. Historical sacrality is manifested in the fact that certain symbols of the past are endowed with a sacred status, which serves as a way to consolidate the people and mobilize their forces. These three positions find their supporters in all strata of society, including among the authorities. The study concludes that in modern conditions it is the historical sacrality that should become the ideological core of the state project that forms an adequate attitude of citizens to the preservation of historical memory. At the same time, the author warns that the use of sacred symbols of our history in the educational process, media activities and artistic creativity should exclude formalism and vulgarity.
