The article presents a brief analytical review of the process of formation of the church-religious periodicals of the Russian emigration in the 1920s–30s. The object of research in this paper is the problems faced by the publishers of the Russian émigré community in the organization of press activities in the interwar period. The principles of scientific objectivity and historicism allowed the author to assess the reasons for the successes and failures of various journals (`including Orthodox-oriented ones) located in places of concentration of Russian emigrants of the “first wave”. The emphasis in the article is made on the most popular church-religious periodicals published in the period of the 1920s–30s. in Europe and China. The study reveals the role of international organizations, brotherhoods, religious and philosophical societies, patrons in financing and organization of the press, noted the activities of educational institutions in preparation of materials for publication. This period of life of the Russian émigré community is characterized by political, ideological and economic crises that accompanied the emigrants of the “first wave”. However, it was the awareness of the lost homeland, the deprivation of the usual way of life, income, the desire to comprehend the new conditions of an alien civilization and adapt to them, as well as the need for literary creativity, which contributed to the activation of publishing work. Church-religious periodicals, like the vast majority of Russian publications abroad, were called upon to preserve Russian national culture, values, and religious identity. The author summarizes the main problems of the formation of the press activities of the Russian еmigrе community were the instability of financial support and, as a result, the unsystematic release of periodicals, which affected reader demand, distribution area and circulation.
