The role of the Russian Orthodox Church in realization of the goals of punishment in respect of convinced juveniles

The article is devoted to the problems of combating juvenile delinquency through the implementation by the Russian Orthodox Church of the goals of punishment provided for by the criminal law. The paper deals with issues related to the achievement of the goals of punishment through various instruments of educational influence on minors by the Russian Orthodox Church. The relevant statistical data presented in the study demonstrate the ambiguity of achieving the goals of punishment both in general and among minors. The article analyzes specific tools used to restore social justice, correct a convicted minor and prevent them from committing new crimes. To effectively achieve these goals, it is necessary to understand the causality of juvenile delinquency, which at the present stage is largely associated with a decrease in the level of spirituality. The author considers possible ways of influence of the Russian Orthodox Church on the state of religious and moral education. The main documents regulating the counseling activities of the Church in places of deprivation of liberty are given. The special role of the prison priest in the positive moral orientation of minors serving sentences in a closed educational colony is emphasized. As a result, it was proved that the instilled spiritual and moral qualities can prevent further criminal experience of a teenager. The Church, realizing thegoals of punishment through social service, helps juvenile delinquents to make the right moral choice and return to a full life in society.
