Linguistic and stylistic features of the sermons of St. Luke (Voyno-Yasenetsky) On the Christian Upbringing of Children

The article is devoted to the analysis of linguistic and stylistic features of the sermon of St. Luke (Voyno-Yasenetsky) «On the Christian upbringing of children», delivered in the Intercession Cathedral of Tambov on July 8, 1945. The author explores the lexical and grammatical features of the text, as well as the techniques of expressiveness of speech used by St. Luke (Voyno-Yasenetsky) in this sermon. The author summarizes the general characteristics of the main stylistic techniques in a table, which provides a list and examples of means of expression, as well as determines their textual function. Based on the analysis of the characteristic features of St. Luke’s stylistics, the author comes to the conclusion that St. Luke relied in his writings on the statements of the holy fathers (the wise Sirach, St. John Chrysostom, St. Tikhon Zadonsky) and used the compositional techniques of the then not yet famous, but widely known Russian preachers Archbishop Ambrose of Kharkov and St. Theophan the Recluse of Vysha, which testifies to the continuity of spiritual preaching experience.
