Holy Righteous John of Kronstadt on the mystery of the Eucharist

This study is devoted to the teaching on the Eucharist of the holy righteous John of Kronstadt, reflected in his diary entries for 1857–1861. The Eucharistic tradition of the Orthodox Church is traced, the successor of which is the ascetic of Kronstadt. Through a compositional and stylistic analysis of the records, reflecting personal experiences associated with participation in the main church sacrament, the author of the article builds a logical model underlying his reasoning, identifies typical rhetorical devices, as well as key words that convey the spiritual state of a person before and after acceptance of Holy Mysteries of Christ. In conclusion, the author claims that the living Eucharistic experience of Saint John of Kronstadt, contained in his diaries, reveals for all Orthodox
Christians the true meaning of communion with church life and regular acceptance of the Holy Mysteries of Christ, and therefore has a missionary and apologetic potential. The epistolary heritage of Saint John of Kronstadt is not dry scholasticism, but a living Eucharistic theology, which he embodied in his life and his ministry.
