Church community problem in Orthodox ecclesiology

The article analyzes the problem of understanding the church community as a place for the true realization of the catholic nature of the Church at the local level. Within the framework of Orthodox ecclesiology, this problem is due to the influence of the ideas of protestant ecclesiology, which was reflected in the doctrine of the conciliarity of the Church of A. S. Khomyakov and in the eucharistic ecclesiology of archpriest N. Afanasiev. In the present work, the author analyzes the influence of pneumatologism
in Orthodox ecclesiology, which is associated with the definition of the Church as a community of believers, charismatic in nature and based on the unity of believers in love. According to the conclusions of this study, the orthodox approach to the problem of the church community should take into account the external hierarchical structures of the Church, which are necessary conditions for the realization of the catholic nature of the Church and historically established forms of church communion at all levels. The reason for the discussion of this problem in the context of modern orthodox ecclesiology was the ecclesiological ideas of archimandrite Cyril (Govorun), recently published in his article “Community as the Nature of the Church” (2016). In conclusion, the author focuses on the problems of modern Orthodox theology associated with the tendency to perceive the personal spiritual experience of a member of the community in isolation from the Eucharist and the hierarchical structures of the Church, as well as an individualistic approach to the sacrament of the Eucharist.
