Tambov Theological Seminary on the eve of and during the period of reforms of theological educational institutions in 1808–1818

Abstract

In general, the reforms of theological educational institutions in 1808-1818 had a beneficial effect on the state of spiritual education in the diocese. As a result of the reforms, the Tambov Theological Seminary, which preserved the best traditions of the pre-reform school, received a qualitative renewal of all spheres of life. A consistent, harmonious system of spiritual education and management was formed in the seminary, the educational process was improved, the content of the seminary and the financial situation of the teaching staff significantly improved. At the same time, there were still shortcomings in the educational process and in the teaching methods, there was a shortage of trained personnel and, as a result, several subjects were taught by one teacher; the problem of material support for theological schools and the living arrangements of seminarians remained. The authors of the reforms of theological schools in the second half of the 19th century had to answer these questions.
