Spiritual security of Russian students: results of sociological surveys in Tambov and Ryazan

The article presents an understanding of the problem of spiritual security of Russian youth in the context of studying the value orientations of students in two Russian regions. Based on sociological measurements conducted in Ryazan and Tambov (autumn 2022), the authors conclude that in the collective consciousness of Russian students living in provincial Russian cities, a cautious attitude to the values of other cultures prevails due, firstly, to the presence of a stable ethno-cultural tradition, and secondly, to the Russian urban cultural traditions and, finally, the entrenched values of Orthodoxy, which carry out the struggle of the “old with the new”, thus preserving the eternal, timeless spiritual values of Russian culture. The results of the authors’ empirical research have shown that the image of the Motherland, the spiritual image of the native land act as significant value orientations for the youth of the Russian province, while such images are realistic and regionally “colored”, that is, correspond to the historical, social or cultural memory of a particular Russian region.
