Abstract

The purpose of the article is to analyze the iconographic and historical-artistic properties of the Trinity icon by Andrei Rublev and to show the peculiarities of the perception of church art as a sacred and artistic work in a museum and a temple. The relevance of the work is related to questions about returning the temple shrines of the Russian Orthodox Church. Modern museums in their collections store many relics that should be returned to their original place. Today there are three points of view on church art: this is art that has varying degrees of artistic value, characterizing and testifying to the uniqueness and originality of Russian culture; these are shrines of the Russian Orthodox Church, created for prayer and are part of worship; a position that combines the two previous points of view. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the substantiation of the meaning of acquaintance with the shrine, in particular the “Trinity” by Rev. Andrei Rublev, in the place originally designated for it – in the temple, and not in the museum, and the argumentation of the expediency of returning the icons to the temple not only from a theological point of view, but also from the position of spiritual and moral education of the individual. The result of the article was the following conclusion: initially the icon was intended for prayer and participation in worship. Its place is in the temple, where it retains its artistic merits and performs its sacred functions.
