The Grace of God and the will of the Holy Mother of God: Russian theologians on the Catholic Dogma

The article is devoted to a review of the teaching of the Catholic dogma on
the immaculate conception of the Virgin Mary, which is the main Mariological dogma of the Roman Catholic Church. On December 8, 1854, Pope Pius IX published the bull Ineffabilis Deus, in which he approved the dogma of the Immaculate Conception of the Mother of God.
The article analyzes the statements of Russian theologians regarding this
doctrine. In particular, the opinions of Orthodox theologians on the event that occurred at the time of the Annunciation in the context of the action of the grace of God on the will of the Most Holy Theotokos are considered. The author touches upon the issue of the redemption of the Mother of God, where the weakest point in the Catholic concept is the assertion that God, being outside of time, placed the atonement of the Blessed Virgin outside the conditions of time, extending the action of the redemptive sufferings of Jesus Christ to Her even before they were committed. It is overlooked from the field of vision of Catholic theologians that if Christ suffered in His human nature, His human soul and body suffered, and as a man Christ lived on earth in time, then the arguments based on His Divine timelessness are simply inapplicable to the cause of the Atonement. The article concludes with statements by Russian theologians about the absence of any need to dogmatize the Orthodox teaching about the Most Holy Theotokos.
