Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of school textbooks for 6–9th grades on History of Russia for the content of information about the history and activities of the Russian Orthodox Church. The author conducts a comparative analysis of both the content of the Orthodox component and the volume of the material taught, reveals the peculiarities of the wording in the presentation of information. The purpose of the article is to show the importance of the Orthodox approach in the upbringing and education of school-age children. The work uses traditional historical, logical and chronological methods, as well as comparative analysis. The empirical base of the study was the textbooks recommended by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation and used in the school curriculum on History of Russia. As a result, it is shown that textbooks for secondary schools present information about the role of the Russian Orthodox Church in Russian history in different ways. The textbook, edited by A. V.Torkunov, sufficiently presents the activities of the Russian Orthodox Church and the role of Orthodoxy in the era of the formation of the state. In the textbooks of other authors, the situation is presented fragmentarily: there is a tendency to ignore information on the specified topic or only a negative assessment of the issue is given. The author comes to the conclusion that the integration of information about the Russian Orthodox Church into the discipline “History of Russia” will help students gain more objective knowledge, form a holistic perception of the history of the Fatherland.
