Eucharistic order of services of the Western Rite

The article is devoted to the history, content of the order of services of the Western Rites and modern practice of the celebration of the Eucharist, which existed during the first millennium of the undivided Church in the west of the Roman Empire and subsequently practiced by the Catholic Church. The relevance of the issue is due to the interest in the study of the ancient liturgies of the Western rite, in particular the possibility of their use in communities seeking unity with Orthodoxy. The purpose of the article is to compare the ancient order of services of the Western Rite and determine their possible variants, similar to the practice of the Eastern Churches. The article discusses common features of Western rites, limited either territorially or institutionally (within a specific monastic order), in comparison with the universal rite of the Roman Mass. Through a comparative historical analysis, the main differences between the ancient Western liturgies and the post-reform Roman mass are determined (a brief history of the rite before and after the Second Vatican Council of 1962 is presented). It is shown that the Mozarabic and Gallican liturgies, according to ancient sources, have a greater variety of prayers and that the Mediolan (Ambrose) rite in its pre-reform form retained many features of the Eastern liturgical tradition. The Gallican mass has various reconstructive variants, including elements of borrowing from Celtic and Mozarabic sources. An attempt to recreate it was made in the 20th century for possible use in Western Rite communities wishing to join Orthodoxy, as well as for the general expansion of liturgical experience in line with church tradition.
