Metropolitan Vladimir (Bogoyavlensky) on life and problems of Russian society at the turn of the 20th century (on the 30th anniversary of the finding of the Holy Relics)

The article presents an overview of current socio-political issues reflected in the journalistic writings of the Hieromartyr Metropolitan Vladimir (Bogoyavlensky). Using the methods of comparative historical and problem-thematic analysis, the author reveals analogies in the spiritual and moral state of Russian society at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries, which determines the relevance of the study. The author of the article focuses on three interrelated problems of public life, which Metropolitan Vladimir pays close attention to in his journalistic writings: the negative impact of radical social democratic ideology on the morality of people, the leveling of Orthodox family traditions and the upbringing of younger generation, the spread of alcoholism. In the analyzed articles and sermons of Metropolitan Vladimir, these problems are solved in the anthropological aspect. The idea of the master is emphasized that the sinful damage and vices that are present in human nature and in society can be healed by Divine grace if every family and society as a whole stays in the bosom of the Church. In conclusion, the author claims that the legacy of the outstanding holy martyr, who successively occupied the Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kyiv sees, has scientific value and can be used as relevant information and methodological material in modern social, missionary and pedagogical activities of the Russian Orthodox Churches.
