During the first millennium of Christianity, each local Church had its own order of the Divine Liturgy, which usually bore the name of the apostle, the founder of the cathedra. This article is devoted to the history, content and modern practice of ancient Eucharistic rites – the liturgy of Apostle James and the liturgy of Apostle Mark. The earliest version of the liturgy of Apostle James dates from the preChalcedonian period (before the fifth century) and was better known in the Church of Jerusalem. The Liturgy of Apostle Mark is associated with the Church of Alexandria, and the Coptic tradition of its celebration is of the greatest interest to researchers. Both of these ancient liturgies served as the basis for the compilation of the Byzantine rite of the liturgy of Basil the Great, which was the main service of the Byzantine Church until the X–XII centuries. Based on modern information on the history of liturgics and the textology of liturgical rites, the article presents the differences and similarities of the two rites, in particular, the content of their anaphors. Main conclusions are that the reconstruction of these ancient rites is a certain difficulty due to the insufficient development of the manuscripts. At
the same time, the introduction of parishioners to the liturgical diversity of Universal Orthodoxy makes it possible to deepen the experience in the Eucharist and their own faith.
