The structure of the official part of the Tambov Diocesan Journal: 1861-1917

The Tambov Diocesan Journal was founded by St. Theophan the Recluse in 1861 and lasted until 1918 (that year only one issue was published). Initially, the journal was divided into two separate parts – official and unofficial. The article analyzes the structure of the official part, what changes it underwent during the decades of the existence of this organ of the church periodical press. The main subject of study is the headings that changed and how much material was printed in them. The author comes to the conclusion that since its foundation, the Tambov Diocesan Journal has almost exactly followed the plans of rubrication that were adopted by the Holy Synod, but since the first year there has been a tendency to reduce the volume of the official part and increase the unofficial part, where materials of a spiritual and moral nature were published. The heading News and announcements has undergone noticeable changes, which originally belonged to the official part, but over time it was divided: the first part of it dissolved into diocesan and all-Russian news, and the second turned into a commercial appendage of the unofficial part, where advertising of magazines, church products and enterprises was spread out.
