The article is devoted to professional and personal life of First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia (ROCOR) – Metropolitan Anastasius (Gribanovsky). The key points of the article are a description of the main periods of the metropolitan's life in Russia and in exile, abroad. The article also highlights his activities during the restoration of the Patriarchate, works on the revival of monastic life in Palestine, participation in the PanOrthodox Congress in Constantinople. The second part of the paper focuses on his efforts, as First Hierarch of the Church Outside Russia, to restore church life and church unity in post-war Europe and the United States.
