The theme of bearing the cross in the work by Saint Theophan the Recluse “Three Words on the Cross Bearing”

The article contains a comprehensive philological and theological analysis of the writing by St. Theophan the Recluse “Three Words on the Cross Bearing.” The author examines the genre and stylistic features of the text, identifies the etymological and cultural-historical roots of the concept of “Cross” and correlates it with the classification of crosses presented by St. Theophan. In conclusion, the author claims that a system description of the spiritual path of a person as a voluntary bearing of the cross, leading to the realization and acceptance of the Great Sacrifice of the Savior, was created in “Three Words on the Cross Bearing.”
