Abstract

The article is devoted to the analysis of the literary heritage of Libanius, an orator and teacher of Early Byzantium, which is a large body of materials: speeches, educational rhetorical recitations, school essays and letters. The preservation of written sources creates a unique opportunity to study various aspects of the life of Eastern Roman society, its ideology and culture. The author concludes that the speaker's works, which combine social topicality and subjectivity, help to understand the complex processes of society's transition from a pagan worldview to a Christian one.
