The article presents the view of Venerable Ambrose of Optina on the essence of monastic work and systematizes spiritual instructions to those who are engaged in this field. Particular attention is paid to the development of the most important virtues, such as patience and humility, as well as the prayer feat, the fight against passions and maintaining spiritual health of monks. The author emphasizes the simplicity and accessibility of the moral teachings of Venerable Ambrose, thanks to which the spiritual heritage of the elder remains relevant today.
