The baptism of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir in 988, and then the Baptism of the entire nation, is a turning point in Russian history. Through Baptism, Rus adopted the spiritual and cultural heritage of Orthodox Byzantium, Christian science and education, enlightenment and bookishness, and organically entered the advanced family of Christian nations. Orthodoxy brought Rus to a completely different level of political, social and cultural development, strengthened its ties with the Slavs of the Balkans, who had already accepted Orthodoxy by that time. The most important testament of the Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir and the most valuable thing that the Russian people acquired in the font of Baptism were the Gospel norms of life and the Christian way of thinking.
