Spiritual aspects of restoration of church architecture monuments

Abstract

Preservation of historical memory in cultural heritage sites undoubtedly testifies to the desire of society to build its future on the basis of previous development experience. The civilizational importance of restoration activities cannot be underestimated. Monuments of material culture are still the starting points in the formation of the future world order. Realizing the importance of preserving objects of material culture, special attention should be paid to preserving the spiritual heritage, the objects of which are monuments of church art. Temples and monasteries with unique paintings, icons, books and other liturgical objects constitute a single spiritual and material environment. Restoration of spiritual and material space in the context of the modern urban development situation often involves the regeneration and renovation of the environment. Recreation of a temple or monastery complex in its original form is not always possible and justified. In cases where there is insufficient initial data for design, or the reconstruction of an object, as a rule, as part of an ensemble does not ultimately lead to the desired result, and sometimes distorts the perception of the ensemble in the context of modern development, regeneration and renovation as more creative methods solve the problems of identifying the internal patterns of the historical environment, the architectonics and semantic significance of artistic images. In a number of cases, considering the restoration of the spiritual component in the urban environment as a whole, a reasoned decision is made to build new churches. New church construction should serve as a means of restoring the urban fabric, reproducing lost elements of the urban landscape, planning structure, scale, divisions, rhythm, silhouette, visual connections, spatial relations of development, restoring the integrity of the spiritual and material environment.
