Abstract

The main point of this article is to study hymnography texts of the service of Christmas. Troparion, kontakion and kanons are analyzed as an attempt of expressing the meaning of the feast. One of the main poetical methods here is “non-linear perspective”: it’s a way that has got also theological meaning, way to show the Nativity as God’s free-will self-humiliation. One of the main points is that some specific features of Christian culture are found in hymnography i.e. the reception and interpretation of events of the New Testament are expressed in language and poetical means.
