Problems in the Behavior of Parishioners in Orthodox Churches in the Second Half of the XIXth – the Beginning of the XXth Centuries

The article analyzes the influence of fashion, which has spread over a wider population, on the appearance and behavior of the flock of Orthodox parishes. The sources used were the reports of the fathers of the deaneries of the Tambov diocese and books published at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries on the rules of behavior in society. The main attention is paid to the townspeople. New behavior patterns of parishioners, which worried the clergy most of all, have been highlighted. Some details of the mourning and wedding costumes and ceremonies are touched upon. Conclusions are drawn about the role of modernization of society in violating Orthodox traditions.
