The spiritual and moral image of a Christian in the sermons of Saint Theophan, delivered at the Tambov cathedra

The article examines the homiletic activity of Saint Theophan, the purpose of which was the archpastor's desire to reveal the religious and moral ideal for people zealous for faith and piety, to teach the truth and lead to salvation. One of the tools of this work was preaching. Saint Theophan wrote: "A true sermon is one that is bright and enlightens, warm and comforting, strong and attracts, obliges, compels to act. These properties are not distributed in it so that they constitute separate parts; but it is all in its entirety and in each part filled with light, warmth and strength and acts by them inseparably." It was through such preaching that the saint tried to convey to people the eternal truths, living by which a person could know God and become a bearer of a spiritual and moral image.
