The concept of nurturing education in the “Notes on Didactics” of the Holy Martyr Thaddeus (Uspensky) (by the example of Chapter II)

The article presents an analysis of the second chapter of the fundamental pedagogical work “Notes on Didactics” by Hieromartyr Thaddeus (Uspensky). The relevance of addressing this particular part of the “Notes...” is due to several reasons. Firstly, “Notes ...” were published by Archimandrite Thaddeus in Ufa in 1902. Until recently, only the first chapter, devoted to issues of general didactics, was available in electronic form and received sufficient understanding in the dissertation of N. N. Donenko (2020). The second chapter (“On teaching Law of God”) and the third chapter (“On teaching the Slavic language”) were republished in electronic form in Tver only in 2003. Thanks to this, an opportunity was opened up for the study of these chapters by practicing teachers working in Sunday schools, Orthodox gymnasiums, theological seminaries, etc., who teach “Law of God” as a system-forming subject. Secondly, in Chapter 2, Archimandrite Thaddeus succeeded in formulating the basic provisions, the conceptual principles of nurturing education and the pedagogical technology for implementing this concept in a real pedagogical process. The author of the article suggests that it was the Holy Martyr Thaddeus (Uspensky) who was one of the first to develop the concept of educative education at the beginning of the 20th century, which was subsequently developed by Soviet teachers only in the 1960s–1980s. In conclusion, a number of topical issues in the system of Russian education are noted, related to the search for new approaches to the development of secular pedagogical science and practice on the foundation of the Christian faith.
