This article provides a philological analysis of the biblical images and symbols used by Archimandrite Nikolas (Kasatkin) in his speech when he was nominated Bishop of Revel, vicar of the Riga diocese. The detailed metaphor he cited represents theological and philological interest in revealing the essence of the Orthodox spiritual mission and the methods used by St. Nicholas and explaining the reasons for the success of the Orthodox spiritual mission among heterodox churches in Japan.
